Earth and Mineral Pigment paint making apprenticeships

Over the past few years I’ve received many requests for one on one teaching sessions on how to make paintings from earth and mineral pigments. This is something I’ve been able to offer to a few interested artists. I am now making these one on one sessions available more widely, both for fine artists seeking to connect their studio practices more deeply with the land, beginners of all backgrounds and walks of life who have not yet come to one of my workshops, as well as for those who have already come to a workshop but are looking to go further in their earth and mineral pigment painting practice and have specific questions they’d like to work through.

How do these sessions differ from workshops?

The teaching in these sessions for those who have not come to a workshop before will include everything in the workshop, but tailored specifically to your interests and time availability.

For those who have already attended one of my workshops, this is a chance to explore any question you have in greater depth and go further in your earth and mineral pigment painting practice.

One on one teaching session dates are flexible. You send me 2-3 dates or more that work for you and I will let you know my availability. Sessions can range from 2- 5 days. For beginners I recommend a two day minimum. You may come alone or in a group of up to 4 people. Pricing for each individual is discounted slightly in a group of more than one. Rates are more expensive than my workshops (which are between 12 and 20 people) because there is more one on one instruction.

These sessions also offer the flexibility to focus in on a particular interest you may have. Are you interested in finding a particular color pigment? Wanting to find colors that are less transparent and more opaque? Are you wanting to focus more on your watercolor or oil technique with earth and mineral pigments? Paint en plein air in a specific canyon or landscape with earth pigments? Source a particular shade of blue? If so, let me know what your specific interests are and we will focus in on those questions together. This is my 12th year working and experimenting with earth and mineral pigments, and my 6th year teaching these practices to people from all walks of life. I look forward to hearing from you.
